a chat with Cad Chapin. When
Rose came (Ned & Edith
stopped at Harned's) I went over
into her room - saw her photographs & things & somebody's coffin-
plate! Framed on the wall (It belonged to the house.) and ate a
cracker with her. Then it was dark & Diana and I came home - to find Papa
here - have a nice kitchen lunch & go to bed.
Sept 14. Mon.Mr. Gilmore couldn't ask for a finer
vacation - as to weather. Rather a busy day for me, but I had time
to stop & see Rose this noon -
catch a glimpse of Ned and ride up with
Mary.
Papa had gathered enough mushrooms for
supper and they were delicious. I wrote & read
tonight.

Also tonight. Am reading "The Damnation of Theron Ware."

A perfectly beautiful day. J.G.

club to play golf and Willie
took our pictures - Martha's and
mine - and some of mail boxes & things - with J.W.'s Paris camera. I left the office at 5
and rode out to South Park
and up the river road half a mile or so - It was
beautiful. When I got back on Meadow Circle
I saw Rose Mills & Dr. Durand - on his new wheels - ahead
of me. I tried to ride slow, but Rose
had a time going up that hill (the wheel is geared to 100!) and at
the top got off - so of course the Dr.Durand captured me and made me try his
