blackness. Then past the red lights along the ditches of the new water works - and at last - after going to all the hotels - to Andrews - where the Dr. helped us out & Mrs. A, Mrs. Davidson & Edith welcomed us and we sat down as usual to a delicious supper and an evening visit. Then bed and sleep too. I didn't ever wake up till 8:10 a.m. Oct. 18 Sunday The day was cloudy, tho' not rainy. Only an oc- casional peep of the sun. We all went to church and heard a sick man from the Sanitorium preach. The Dr. and I did not stay to Sunday School, but drove "Arbutus" (a rather frisky four-year-old) to see patients - Mrs. Dick, up Main St. a woman up near the cemetery (where I held a black cat & watched another one conversing with some Plymouth Rock chickens). Then down by the driving park & around the track past the barracks where the Italians live who are working on the water works. Then upon the hill and finally up & down & thro' gates & such ruts - to the scene of the new reservoir - where we got out and walked up a muddy path to see the new digging trenches in almost clear mud & water - such a hopeless looking job. When we got back to the little shanty where Arbutus was tied, the Dr. had to scrap & wipe off my shoes for a long time to make them at all presentable. After a difficult turning around of the carriage we got stated for home and went flying.
