June 26. Friday Another lovely day. Ned & I rode over to Davis'. We stopped for Mary (or I did) but she was sick & couldn't go. Papa went on the car. Ned, Helen, Frank, Papa, Mr. Davis, Charlotte & I walked up to the top of Cobb's Hill and there sat down to view the "view" - which was gorgeous - away to the east & south lay the lovely Genesee Valley - all blue & green & dark. Then around south west was the Pinnacle - green & beautiful - the "edge" of it. Then all the western part stretched the dark sky. The skyline irregular with spires & towers against a beautiful red after- glow. And over to the north a ribbon of blue lake. It was certainly a magnificent sight - and we sat & watched till little jewels of electric lights broke out in the dark city, beginning over north & appearing here & there and everywhere - down below our feet almost. There was a continual - crawl - of wheels - trying the new side path - Culver St. When we got back to the house we went in and Kate & Mr. Davis entertained us. I looked at the "Vassarion" (the Vassar Annual) with Kate's picture & lots of funny things in it. We started home rather late (Frank with us.) and flying along on my wheel I felt less a bird than I did on the hill top with Charlotte - deciding on which steeple we would light if we had wings. June 27. Saturday Another lovely day - but warm. After a little shopping I rode home quite tired. Had dinner, washed my hair and then spent about 3 hours upstairs making a light flannel dressing sacque - which I finished and which is very pretty. Ned came up after supper & we
