Sept 4 Friday
A lovely morning. Mama took my
picture in the back yard. Gertrude
lunched with Miss Foote this noon and I with
Edith & Ned at "Sib's". We had a nice lunch. Then went to the Lyceum for tickets for tonight and
coming down, met "Clarke" coming up. He was dressed in a
tailed coat and such a shirt & tie &
tilt to his hat - as tho' he owned the sidewalk - & the swagger! He stared us (Ned & I s'pose) out of countenance & we tried hard
not to return the compliment. I saw Princes & some chorus girls
on the street, too. J.W.
showed me some lovely pictures of his, when I got back- a sweet
little boy & a baby & a woman - many times repeated - besides
others. Gertrude & I went to
the theatre again tonight. Ned &
Frank sat back of us - way
back - and Charlotte, Mrs. Baker,
Lura & Miss Hutchinson
down in front.
I liked it very well. Eloise Mortimer was quite
bearable. Harvey very good indeed and
Clarke as charming as ever - tho' his death was not quite
prolonged enough - I liked the way he picked up Harvey and
shook him.
Amber Smith and her pointed beard young man were in a box
again - and "Little Della" was in spangles.
Sept 5. Sat.
Cloudy. Walked & didn't stay this p.m. tho' - I doubt if we had
a holdiday - with J.W.
here & nothing to do & Pouring rain all the p.m. I stopped
at Ned's at noon. I
