and inspecting the forts (Sacketts Harbor,
Oswego &c.) Papa,
Mr. Streeter (Jno?) and
Gen. Winslow (?) were the committee to receive him
& they got quite chummy. He beckoned to us & held (Claude & me on his knees going down to
Adams in the train - and talked to us. It is
fine outdoors- I know by the whiffs I get - but I'm lazy and haven't been
out this day.
Jan 18. Monday
I had the pleasure (?) of spending half an hour or so in Dr. Scranton's dental chair this noon,
while he hoed at they teeth and made cold shivers run up and down my
spine. Then I enjoyed (?) lunch at Sibley's, and tonight ventured forth to the gymnasium -
tho' it was stormy and blizzardy. My teeth ached and I was "very
miserable, thank you". both Edith& Helen Davis invited
me to play
Pedro at their houses tomorrow night.Edith
first, however. Walked across the bridge met Ned &took car.

Walked up with Mary this noon and tonight she & Ned & I went to Edith's and played
Pedro. Ned
& I had almost beaten the first game when I
told her she might bid 9 (we were so far ahead) & of course we lost
it. Then they beat us again & then we beat them - after popcorn
&c. It was a glorious cold moonlight night - Quite ideal for
skating. Came down in car with Meta,
Theo & Arno.
