evening and thro' Elsie's

house where most of the carpets are down. Then sat on the piazza awhile and I treated Edith to ice cream when she went to the car with me. Today she came up about five and we rode out to the park and staid till 7:30 - under the tree in various places and riding around Meadow Circle, where we found a nice breeze. Stopped to pet the deer - a pretty pair - and tame. Edith came home with me to supper & spent most of the evening. I rode partway down with her and we had phosphate. Then I wrote to Fredricka &c. This has been a hard day. So hot. J.G. just home & he kept me till 1:30 or so. We had ice cream at the office one hot day - Thursday - and I've been making blue prints. Crump & Mart "vacated" today. Aug. 9. Sunday One of the most uncomfortable days - weather - wise I ever experienced & if the sun had been out it would have been the hottest. It was unsufferable. Mama went to church tho'. I lounged and read & lay in the hammock this p.m. until it rained on me awhile. Then I came in. There was a terrible thunder- storm this morning - before daylight - almost warsent thunder and lightning. After dark I went down to Mary's to bid them goodbye.
