becoming & lovely. I was just going down stairs again when I met the Davises & they called us back & invited Mary to go to Europe with them if they "struck ile" on their farm (They are going to "bore"!) The Rogers came before we got down and then we were all there & began to play. I had pretty goodish hands but horrid luck all the evening. When I bid high all the other cards were in some one person's hand &c. &c. My score was the lowest of any - but Mary's - and that was my only consolation. We had a chafing dish supper. Mrs. Weaver & Matie sat at each end & "creamed" oysters- which were very good. I sat between Mary & Helen Davis - We had conundrums &c. We are going to have another "ball" when the club comes here (probably Feb. 12th) after supper I took a flashlight group - rather one - sided. I'm afraid, because of fear of getting a lamp in. Lura felt better tonight but no one was hilarious. Mrs. Baker came to supper. We 5 walked home It was cool, pale moonlight. Bed towards 1 o'clock Jan 16. Sat. Looked like rain today but didn't. I was very late this morning. J.W. down at last - this p.m. & gushed & glowed & told about his "extended trip south" (Philadelphia - 2 days) and trolley - ride &c. He seems vey happy. J.G. came home too, on the Empire. I left before five & went to Glenny's, Hovey's Bicknell & Buchheckers & Ned's saw her "Marie Antoinette" poster - good - a pierrot - throwing roses in front of him as he dances forward. After supper walked down there
