May 19. Tuesday It rained this morning, so I took a car down. This noon walked up with Mary. Coming back I met the 1st Separate company going on their anniversary outing. They looked very nice & it cleared off & was a beautiful afternoon quite cool, though, I showed J.W. some of my pocket kodaks, & this afternoon he spent taking pictures in the offices & Claude's office. He was real funny, too. After supper Ned came up for a ride. We went for Mary, but missed her. It was a perfect night for riding, the rapids were that lovely sky blue & the sunlight light green on the grassy banks & pinkish on the ploughed places, the air was absolutely clear & still. We went out to the "sunset seat" & drank it in. Heard the good night birdsongs- Pretty soon Rose Mills came along and joined us and later Mary - Alice - I introduced all three to Miss Mills & we chatted till it began to get towards dark & then rode home. By that time "a dog howled". That comes half an hour after the bird songs & the sun. Ned & Mary chatted (!) coming home, I rode down with them. Ned & I saw Miss Mills home & then I Ned. She put "Victoria" in the laundry & then walked up a little way with me. I wrote a long while then - too long. May 20th Wednesday Cool & pleasant today. Walked down with Emma Lynch at noon & saw a man in bed
