Jan 28. Thurs.
Another bad night and still headachey. Stormy -
Gilmore invited me to lunch at Sibley's. We had a real good lunch and a
very swell time. Lura
fell off of a table in G
&McC's today & broke her collar-bone - she's home
in bed - strapped up for 2 weeks. Tonight (which was stormy like today. It
has snowed all day) we went - Mama
& I - to the Lyceum
again to the Fete. Sat front row in balcony & enjoyed
it very much. The people danced better. The clowns were funnier and
Lizette &c. more charming. Many flowers - (Mr.
De Puy pre- sented himself with a large basket!) &c.
Sam Hamilton turned a somersault &c.&c.
Afterward, with Mr. Pond as
auctioneer & Claude as recorder
they sold some posters at auction. Miss Hastings
(1st hon. mention) sold for the most $15.00 to Geo.
Eastman. Rufus Dryer's for 8.00 to his
father, and
Ned's for $7.50 to Mahlon
Day. Afterwards Mama &
I watched them dance then went back on the stage and talked to
Rose, Charella, Mr. & Mrs Allen,
the Behn's etc, etc. Came home with
Claude (by stage door.)
Jan 29. Friday
Will my head ever stop aching. A lovely winter day - Flurry's snow.
The 12 P.L.L.'s met tonight at Edith's. I was a little late, but not
very - Everyone had (just) arrived but the Rogers & Ned & I
began playing with
Edith and had pretty good luck. We had a
real jolly time but Mrs. Weaver & I both
had toothache and used "Fiezler's" - Mabel
put Nellie 27 in the hole. Then
played with me- Made it spades & led the 9 of clubs! My score was
1897
