Not far beyond the girls had found the station and here we waited from 7 till 8:45 or so, beguiling the time with a good deal of visiting, singing, talking, and soon. Such as "There was a young man from Port Said, who, just before going to bed Ate a great deal too much of some cheese that was Dutch- And when he woke up, he was dead!" and "Mary had a box of gum Faultless Pepsin chips and everywhere that Mary went she raised it to her lips. It followed her to school one day which was against the rule. The teacher took that gum away, and chewed it after school" &c. &c. &c. Matie & Lura went into a house to get warm and came back loaded with apples (which we devoured) and an invitation to stay all night - but the train did stop and we got into the station all O.K. after nine and rode away, Mary & I together. There was chicken broth for me at home - but I didn't need it. Read a little. Oct. 12 Monday Rain threatened but did not come. Staid down at noon & tried to shop, but didn't much. Lunched with Ned & Edith. Sewed tonight. Oct. 13. Tuesday More threatening rain, shopping & dressmaker-ing. Ned & Edith were up for a little while tonight, wrote.
