Not far beyond the girls had found the station and here we waited
from 7 till 8:45 or so, beguiling the time with a good deal of
visiting, singing, talking, and soon. Such as "There was a young man
from Port Said, who, just before going to bed Ate a great deal too
much of some cheese that was Dutch- And when he woke up, he was dead!"
and "Mary had a box of gum Faultless Pepsin chips and
everywhere that Mary went she raised it to her lips. It followed her
to school one day which was against the rule. The teacher took that
gum away, and chewed it after school" &c. &c. &c.
Matie & Lura went into a house to get warm and came back loaded
with apples (which we devoured) and an invitation to stay all night
- but the train
did stop and we got into the station all O.K.
after nine and rode away, Mary
& I together. There was chicken broth for me at home - but I
didn't need it. Read a little.
Oct. 12 Monday
Rain threatened but did not come. Staid down at noon & tried to
shop, but didn't much. Lunched with Ned & Edith. Sewed
tonight.
Oct. 13. Tuesday
More threatening rain, shopping & dressmaker-ing.
Ned & Edith were up for a little while tonight, wrote.
