It was fine - He takes the part of a good-for nothing old drunkard who has "seen better days" and is always preaching the things he don't practice - a perfect character - study and perfectly done, it seemed to me. The company was very English and very good. The "hero" reminded me of Wiltsie all the time tho' taller and some better looking but quite his character & temperament - in a way it seemed to me. Gilbert Hare was better than last year too. It rained when we came out - rather to our surprise and I went around in a Clinton & Jefferson Ave. car. Feb. 23. Tuesday The Stedmans & J Foster Warner's were in it - and it was very hot! Oh - but the Play! Claude was even more enthusiastic over Jno. Hare than I when we discussed it at breakfast. I told him Mrs. Allen & Florence Beach sat near us ("Eccles" was a sort of - "Mr.Beach!) A horrid windy - blizzardy - diasagreeable day. I had a neuralgic headache & stopped at the YWCA before six to tell Helen I wouldn't be down. Sewed and read. Feb 24. Wednesday Lunched with Matie this noon & had a last little talk before NY - where she goes on Monday. Stopped at Ned's before supper. Everybody aghast at Kirkpatrick's despicable character - which has just come out - with a win!
