Meta was home till 7:30, too. We went over to the asylum lawn and saw the orphans march (to their own drums) & heard them sing songs - choruses & solos. That pathetic boy sang one about his Mother's grave! Then a man took their pictures - in two large groups. Prinnie was in one and then had to wait while he barked at the donkey. The Parrot & the pug were in the other. Then the man took a group of the other children & we went back to Behn's piazza for lemonade &c. Served by "Tessie Turpin". Frank Mandeville & Morley Turpin were omnipresent. I met "Pet" (!) Bennett and Mrs. Adolph Sphieler. Went home to supper (tho' I was invited to stay) & Mrs. Behn sent over lemonade and things. Mary came for me to go to the lake - but I didn't - & Ned floated by. I had lent my wheel to Meta & Theo brought it back while I watched the guests play tennis. Then I read awhile. June 18th Thursday A beautiful day. Lura came up this p.m. to get me to go to the lake tonight - and Ned came while we were eating supper to get me to go to the park. I said "no" both times. Claude went with Ned & "Matie" with Lura. Later in the evening I went down to Mary's to take some pictures. They persuaded me down town to a Republican- tin horn performance - the occasion.
