could hardly wait to get home & up to Matie's! Tonight she, Ned & I went to the "Mandarin" which was
quite funny, but I didn't feel first rate, to enjoy it. This beastly pain.
The Dr's medicine let me sleep tonight - first time.
Feb. 4. Thursday
I had a long, long talk with Matie today
at noon - all about her own affairs - poor girl! Tonight gymnasium
again. The Thursday p.m. class had brought their lunch & staid to see
us drill - and we drilled first rate. Tho' I was awfully lame from
the great game (I played all the time) and Miss
Holmes had an ankle strapped up in adhesive plaster. Then
we had basket-ball - Ned & I as
homes against Rose & Helen Davis - Score 8 to 6 in our favor. The
visitors clapped us frequently. Afterwards I took pictures - two groups -
theirs & ours (under the yellow flag.) and then they treated us
to sandwiches, cake and olives. Very gay.
Feb. 5. Friday
Feel better than I have in 2 weeks - but not well. Went to
Sibley's to lunch with Matie today & she told me lots more of her
woes. Tonight she came up - & Ned
- to play Pedro. Mary was coming but had a sore throat & sent Nellie & we had a jolly game just
about even. They beat the rubber 56 to 55! I had chocolate &
wafers. They went home about 10 and then I nearly covered a pillow - old
one - with new olive velour and silk.
Feb. 6. Sat.
Horrid drizzly day - Staid down in pouring slippery rain. Sat with
