March. 29 Sunday A beautiful spring day. Everything melting. The ice gone down the river and the loads of snow fast disappearing, I did nothing much but make a few prints and freeze cream before dinner. Mary stopped in after church for a chat & a suggestion to go to Charlotte's this p.m. which we did. We walked & I didn't wear a wrap (but carried one) Everyone ad- mires my green silk waist. We stopped at Lura's & found Mr. & Mrs. Bert Brower there. They soon went. Lura has the bicycle fever. Bessie Smith & Mary Shepard have just bought 1894 Victorias for $40. Lura walked up to C's with us. We found them all home - Enthusiastic about a lovely new house for rent on "Avondale Park" (!) and about Helen's being summoned to Yonkers to "meet a Committee". Staid till about six and rode home. I was used up, fussed with pictures, looked over N.Y. papers, ate ice cream & then got to bed. Mch. 30. Monday Warm & spring like still. It's marvellous how the snow goes, & the river is rising very fast. I was busy all day tho' J.W. got home Saturday. Tonight I wrote. All of us (including Klem) have answered Beach's letter I took the little Post Express theatre over for the orphans. They played outdoors today! March 31. Tuesday The river still rising. A pleasant morning & I walked down with Claude & took 10 pictures (Gilmore took the
