Later, Claude & I walked down with
Ned - said How do to Rose & then went to
Salter's & ordered some flowers sent here
& there (Matie, Lura,
Emma & Nellie) & came home on the 11 o'clock car! I couldn't
sleep - thinking how nice people were to me. Mrs. Behn sent Xmas "kuchen" by Theo.
Dec. 25. FridayChristmas day! Busy, busy, fixing dining room with the new
furniture, pillows, presents, popcorn - washing doileys - dressing -
&c. &c.&c. The girls came to dinner (Ned & Edith) at 3
and it was quite "swell" - turkey - ice cream - &c afterwards we
strung popcorn for the tree about 14 yards!) and talked & visited in
dining - & sitting room. Ned told
me some things about Rose. About 6
we got combed & dressed & went down to Mac Arthur's - found all the
Millers there
Warren Fisk & Harry Severance & a Xmas tree. Staid an
hour or so & had a real jolly time. The girls had pretty presents and
were delighted.
Mary got "Bob's &
Maties". The girls came back
home with me, but didn't stay. I read in "Bohemian Invaded"
(Frank Davis' present) and then
wrote 4 letters. Mary got an opera
glass with no name - & the girls think
Warren Fisk sent it. I have my doubts!
Dec. 26. Saturday
A day after Christmas feeling prevades, but everyone
seems to be happy. I bought my green Velvetina waist and some
gilt buttons and some new shoes and gloves &c. Got Gertrude's picture - quite good. Mrs.Jones spent half an hour or so in
the office with me this a.m and came
