A man came yesterday to put up our bronze lamp at the building &
today the brackets are done & look fine. I
went down early this a.m. & bought shoes and things. This
afternoon it began to
pour & kept it up. I lit the gas log &
worked hard. Had to take a car & leave Diana. Tonight Claude &
Charella
have gone to the theatre. Also Theo
& the
Behns. I began "The Minister's
Wooing" because Jas. Russell Lowell tho't
it was
Mrs. Stowe's best novel. A rainy night. "And all night long
in the rain & the wind, a man goes galloping by".
Lovely. Walked down with Claude &
it was so windy at noon I walked again. Sat by the pleasant wood
fire tonight and read "Minister's Wooing". Mary was up to get
me to go to Edith's. Another mild night.
Oct. 1. Thurs.
Pleasant. Up early. Claude started off
at 7:45 (all in new clothes) to be best man at Charlie
Kent's wedding in Buffalo. Mama started at 8:10 for
Ogden to a missionary meeting - where she was to
read a paper, memorial of Mrs. Willard. I walked down
& had a word with Charlotte this
noon. Then went up to Fredericka's
studio for a little chat & met
Ned who walked up town with me - we met
Edith
and went to the Y.W.C.A rooms for lunch with
Helen Davis. A jolly one - then I was the
first
person to join the new gymnasium and the rest
1896.
