was a mist (a wet one) coming down & up & side ways and it made the dis- tance mysterious and the fields even lovelier tones of browns & purples and the tree trunks & fences - such gray & browns. All this with the "tail of my eye" as I sped after Mary. We found Alice & Harry Severance at #78, with a tale of woe of rain up the Scottsville path & Ned & Frank D. standing under awnings with droopy linen & gingham (my diminity waist too!) A short season of swapping stories & I hurried away over the quite wet pavement - to get inside of warm dry clothes & out side of a good warm dinner. We saw the Behn party arriving severally in the rain. Meta (looking fine in a new riding habit) & Dr. Davis had gone (to the lake) on horse back - Arno - Mr. & Mrs. Turpin & Jessie Koch on wheels & Theo & the Buffalo cousin on a tandem! I wrote to C.D.I. after dinner then got Ned & went to Davis's (It stopped raining-hard) Chat was sick & didn't appear. Helen talked Gym- nasium & Frank fed us candy - Mrs. D. gave me a nasturtium & Mr. D. smiled on me. Ned invited me to supper (at Harned's) but I went home.
