trustee's meeting, instead. This evening Ned and Rose came up - Ned brought the Stony Lake print I ordered. We had a nice time. Rose told about their fun at "The Shanty" there last summer. How Mr. Buell was the Sleeping Beauty in a tableau & how she played "Captain Horn" and the boy threw her a bouquet of onions inscribed "Compliments of Capt. Reynolds" - &c. When they started home they found it was raining so borrowed umbrellas, rubbers &c. I read a little. Sept. 19. Sat. Poured this morning when I got up and kept it up almost all day. J.G. had his gas log connected & we lighted up this morning and J.W. lit his wood fire. At noon I stopped at Ned's (in the rain) but decided not to stay down to lunch. At 5 o'clock Claude, Ned & I went into a place on Main St. to see the Vitascope - very funny 15¢ ad- mission & a "gent" with - a flashy diamond stopped the performance while he ushered the "ladies" in. We saw Loie Fuller dance which was very pretty indeed - (but was it "Loie"? - I doubt it) and then waves dashed and broke against a pier. Then some blacksmiths pounded & drank &c. Then a "lady acrobat" performed on a trapeze. (that was good too - the light and shadows) and then May Irwin (life size & that is a size) was kissed by a man - while both were talking
