Newtonville &c. I saw about tickets for home, checks &c., and left my bag, then walked up thro' the maze of Boston streets looked into the Tremont Building and the State House (first being closed two o'clock) Went thro' the Common and Public Gardens, stopping to watch the swan boats. Then went up Commonwealth Avenue to Dartmouth St., which turned out to be the one The Library is on. Crossed over and searched out #124 and finally found Louise Randall, very pleasantly situated at the top. We had a very pleasant visit, ate an apple - lounged in the "den" (after inspecting the flat) had a visit with Howard, who woke up later, declined an invitation to dinner, played with the cat, and finally walked down town with Louise, Howard accompanying us to the corner. We walked thro the Gardens again. The shops were all closed-it being Saturday - and then went up into "Will

's" office (Randall and Becton) and chatted with him, inspecting hypodermic syringes and clinic thermometers &c., meanwhile, I left Louise at the corner, taking the car for the Union Station and we had a very nice dinner - a large plate of cream toast, browned potatoes and a pot of coffee. Had about half an hour to wait, after securing my berth &c. and watched some men with a tame ferret and a parrot. The train started at seven. Went back in the same car (San Francisco) same berth (No.11) that I went out in. Took comfort resting and watching "the evening shadows fall" as we left Boston.
