and part of the view from Lookout. It was boiling hot,
when we all went in, but the water was freezing cold.
Alice had her camera & snapped
unmercifully and Miss Iles was the only
one we knew sitting on the rocks, as Mrs.
Reading was in with a headache, but she revived and
came down after dinner. We sat on the steps, in the orchard in the
parlor on Mrs. Day's piazza, on the "balcony" &c.
&c. but mostly to no avail so much hotness tho' the breeze was quite
nice on Mrs. Day's high piazza, where
Alice, Mrs. R. &
Miss B. spent a pleasant time with Mrs.
and Miss Day &
Marjorie
and
the kittens. After supper Alice,
"Co" and I walked up to the Lookout
and spent a pleasant evening sitting on the steps (literally) with
Mrs. Reading.
Alice told lots of funny stories and
kept us in a gale. The moon came up and silvered the grass and the ends of
the junipers and oh, it was beautiful. When we
got back the Perrins & Mrs.
Miller were there and
Alice "set up" some appollinaris and
Mrs. G.
some lime juice. We spilt some in the sugar and giggled considerably
and were late to bed.
July 22. Tuesday
Still warm but a nice cool sea breeze. Gurdon
was sick & his poor mother had to doctor him or stay with him
all day (some of last night, too.) We sat around the piazza awhile and
then I started off up the lane with "Diana". A pretty way. I took some pictures. It was
and part of the view from Lookout. It was boiling hot,
