I have marked our passage (on a small scale) above. We climbed marshy gullies - hunted sweet grass & fern - had snail races &c. & finally decided to come back by the beach, so Alice ventured to "find a my
" as Tommy does. She got barefooted & went over all right marking the shallow line with her umbrella. By the time we were ready the tide was so much higher & coming in so fast we almost came to grief - but made it and got over into the sand dunes barefooted - for a delightful loaf in the warm sand before getting into shoes. Then such a beach! Like a floor we must have walked a mile or so down to the Bridge, where we met Jeanette
& her nurse & the other children. Hester
is very quiet, but very sweet, and proves to be a little artist of no mean ability - we left her on the bridge with the rest- watching a gigantic clam snail shell & the eels - swimming against the tide. Alice had to go home with barefooted Gurdon, but Miss B. & I stopped at a little Episcopal church for the service and then walked home
