wishing I was going his way, & then I read the N.Y. Dramatic Times (Claude's parting gift!) I took a snap of New Eng- land (above Concord) out of the car window and tried to take Walden Pond. It was lovely- bright & cool - in Boston - I like to arrive in the nice Union Station. I fixed my baggage &c. and then checked my parcels & took an open trolley car with a fat Bostonese conductor - for the Library. The conductor pointed out the new Tremont Bldg - very handsome. The edge of the common is all torn up with the subway. I tried to take a few snaps. Got two of the Library & new old south and of the court inside. Oh, how beautiful that did look in the morning sunlight. I liked Sargent's pictures better than ever and saw Puvis de Chavannes' frescoe for the first time - harmonious colors- but otherwise to Frenchy - or something to be perfect. I didn't stay very long - Stopped in Tremont St. coming back, to buy a ribbon for my watch and then had dinner at the Union Station & time to "cogitate" a little before starting on the "special" at 12:50. It was hot in the car & 2 new England girls jabbering behind me - Everyone-
