July 10th Saturday Hot day and a busy morning. Came home and wrote Anagrams, after lunch till 3.35. The perspiration oozing. Then I hustled into my black organdie dress and went down to Ned's & we took the Sophia St. car down to Frederica's. The Industrial School boys - lots of them were drilling in Jones Square, & looked nice. We found Fredericka sitting under the apple tree waiting for us - and that's where we spent the rest of the afternoon. Edith came over and sewed. I took their pictures. "Tuesday"

was quite cute - overseeing Edith's sewing & helping the delivery man bring in things. We went thro' Will Wray's new house which is nearly done. Had a delicious supper-tongue &c and all ate very heartily. After supper I took a picture of the horse, "Dan" (N.G. too dark) and then lay in the hammock & talked. Felt rather blue someway. Ned & I walked home. Met many wheels coming from the park, where they had the fireworks meant for the 4th. July 12th Sunday. Still warm, but a stiff breeze. Claude is in Oswego today, visiting the Sloan's in their new house

. About half-past ten I rode thro' the heat to the park and sat under the willows - toward the river road & by the river till 2:40p.m. reading Harper's & Century. Howells has begun a good story in the last. It was really cool & delightful under that big willow. Got home in time to do a few anagrams before our simple dinner - also afterward. Its a big job! Frank Davis came up late this p.m. He just got back from camp at PeeksKill this morning & had lots to tell. We rode out to the park & sat on a bench
