when Mr. Grierson was carried bodily to the
piano & propped up against it he sang too. one song - which he
declared was the only
one he knew & he's been practicing it for years (whereas -
private information assures me he was once one of the 3 greatest tenors in
Ireland - sang in the Dublin opera house
or Cathedral or something). Then we had sandwiches (cavaire &c.)
& beer & ginger ale and George
the waiter from the
Livingston waited & everyone was jolly &
Harvey initiated a few (questions in re.
Ayer's Almanac for the ladies &c.) and the men initiated
Mr. Howard in the most wierd manner - low lights
- groans & screams - blindfolding - clash of cymbals -
intonations &c.&c. Mr. Elwood & Kate
Stebbins (a charming girl) told funny stories - &
Johnny Dumont, too) & finally we
all got the last car home - Claude,
Con - Miss
Stowell,
Grierson, Dumont
& I waiting on the 4 corners
together.
Nov. 12. Friday.
Snow & rain and winter. Had a visit with
Lura in her new back room at 44 -
watched the new rug-man (Gurdji) across the way - chatted
with J.G. & Gilmore - waded home in the slush and spent the evening
reading "Artie" aloud to Mama & Claude - It's
funny.
Nov. 13. Sat.
A snowy day - another grate fire tonight and this noon I called on
Helen Davis at
1897
