To finish up last Sunday - I got a letter from the Atlantic
Transport
people, and as a result went over to
Davis's and staid to tea (The
Crosby's - "Mama"& "Murray" were
there) and the end of my correspondence was that I secured a berth
in Stateroom #10 - "Mobile" - the very one the Davis'
wanted - & which was given up by someone just the right moment
all the other desirable ones being full.
birthday. Thursday
Mary, EmmaEdith & I went to see
Sothern in "The Head of the House"
(Henry Esmond) - a first night. Claude knows Shipman, the author, and visited
him & his wife & mother in their box (by request) after the
second act. The scenery was perfect - as Sothern always has
it - but the play was very "first night-y" - what the Dem
& Chron said just expresses what I thought.
Sothern didn't have half a chance - & Virginia
Harned
(his wife) really took the honors. He seems very much & in love
with her.
Daniel Frohman was here - & McDonogh
the other author - & they decided to change it considerably.
They go to Boston next
1898
