"Villette" (Chat's) and watching the Orphan Asylum donation. Geo. Humphrey stopped in a few minutes with Claude before dinner. This morning the ground was covered with snow - but the sun came out & now it's lovely. Mama & I have been shopping this noon - new parlor curtains &c - for its housecleaning time. I forgot to say that Wednesday night I went down to MacArthur's for a little while - in the rain to have them help me select a new fur cape for my seal. Claude went to N.Y. last week. Tonight he is the Oswego (or on his way home) Papa has gone up on Park Avenue, Mama to a quilting at Mrs. Barton's - I sit here one side of the lamp - writing - and Con the other - reading Kipling. Claude has given me a lovely book of his "Indian Tales" with the Story of the Gadsby's &c. in and a beauty of a little book on Oxford.
