angels - food. We went right back (6:30 car) & to the Brick Church to evening service (the girls dragged me!) & after that I went to Mary's for supper - including raw onions & root beer! I was a wreck by time I reached home. Apr. 19. Mon. Cool again & snowed! Quite disagreeable. Mary& I went to see Francis Wilson in "Half a King". He was very funny & fine. Lulu Glaser too - & the whole opera. Wilson's wife & two children were in the box with Gus. Mc- Donald & his wife and Dr. Ewer & Mr. Rich sat behind us & talked to us. We both enjoyed the opera especially because Wilson is on nearly all the time & funny every minute. Apr. 20. Tuesday The eventful day of the "Grand Ball". Had to hustle around & "shop" all noon. Geo. Humphrey was up in Claude's office & had had calls from Francis Wilson. In fact, he had written on the "Vagabond" wall some- thing in French which means - "It is only a step from the Sublime to - Frances Wilson"! Papa went to Watertown yesterday. Mama went to the "Ball" with me tonight. She went as a trained nurse (Sarah Sticking Plaster) and I as "Mary & her little Lamb." - Mary (in Scotch costume - Kilt &c.) and Nellie ("Willie Piffkow" complete) were in the car with us & Mrs. Weaver ("Gretchen") Lura ("Fra. Diavalo") & Mrs. Baker ("Pitti Sing") came in with us. Matie had a stunning pink - "Barbara" costume. Ray Arnold opened the
