I rode right home (after receiving a few compliments from Con in re. my yachting regalia!) and got my
cream & met the Perfects at the
corners (Ned,
Mary, Edith, Mabel, Matie, Mary Conners) and
we took the Charlotte car - arriving
at the Yacht Club house (on Mr. Burrows'
in- vitation) about 7. The lake -
even the river - was very rough and there was no sailing - but the
moon was gorgeous. A nice grate fire inside and soon someone in the
kitchen made hot coffee and there were cream cheese, lettuce & clam
sandwiches & pickles &c. Mr. Burrows also
insisted upon serving beer - of which Ned drank the most. We left early. Mr.
B. & another saw us to the car & we chewed gum! to
going home & were very jolly. Claude came from N.Y. &
Boston tonight.
Sun. Oct. 3.
A simply perfect day. Slept rather late.
Con was around before breakfast. He wiped
dishes &c. and simply made me go to
the park
about 11 o'clock. We sat by the big hollow tree awhile & on the
riverbank, & Con tried to throw a stone
across the river - & finally succeded! & then we rode up the
river road & lay down on the grass under the big tree "Gen.
Jackson" a long time - doing some gushing & talking &
taking pictures &c. I took one of Con from my wheel. He on his beside me - about 1:15
or so we had to start back, as Con was
going to
1897.
