1897.
"Billy" came for Helen & we all came home. Edith stayed all night with me. Oct. 5. Tues. Lovely day & busy. Rode up to Ned's about 5 and had a last dear little chat with her. She looked & was sweet. Took a bath & went to bed early - 9 o'clock to make up for last night. Oct. 6. Wed. Ned's wedding day. A lovely morning but cloudy later - a few sprinkles toward night. J.G. hurried me off at 10 o'clock & I went to Matie Arnold's & dressed to went over to Ned's and found her all dressed. Edith was there & Freddie just arrived. Later Will came & "tried" the place to stand, with me, and wanted me to try the wedding ring on Helen (but I made him do it) The various Orchards came & the 12 Perfects (all but Lura) and Con & Frank Davis & Gordon & the Thomases & Dr. Durand and Dossenbach's orchestra played beautifuly & Freddie gave the signal & Will cut a caper & the door opened & they came out - Ned did look sweet - in her blue cloth suit & big black hat & boquet of violets. I stood nearest to her - almost as near as Will - & the ceremony (by Dr. Taylor) only took 3 minutes and the people kissed her & Will kissed the girls (He asked me beforehand if I would - "because I never had!" - & I didn't say "Yes.) Ned divided her boquet & Mr. Thomas got the first bunch of violets (ultimately Matie) & I the second & we talked
