and Mr & Mrs Bangs & I sat down to dinner together. The dinner was very nice & went off very well. Mrs. Bangs refused about every other course & Mr. Dean took two helpings of each. Lincoln was prominent but cute, & Mr. Bangs gracious. Afterward there was a little music & then the maid lit the grate fire & Mr. Bangs read aloud to us - very well - Kipling's "Recessional", Shelley's "Skylark" & "Westwind" &c. Then "Billy
", the baby, was brought down & was talked to & admired & we saw the game of Klon- dyke and about five I came away & went over to see Mae and John. They had just come in from a walk & were fresh & bright & we had a jolly time & getting supper and eating it in the kitchen and talking over the Vagabonds & the Scrapbook etc.etc. Came home to find the Davis' had been there Nov. 22 Monday to tease me to go to Europe. Helen was up in the office this morning, too. It was a nice day. I rode Diana and did errands &c. this noon, but tonight I got caught in a snowstorm going home - & then had to start out again after supper, with Mama to go to Maggie McKinnon's about her fur collar. The old lady was very entertaining (we had to wait) and told us all about her early experiences up in the Georgian Bay country &c.&c. Con was here - studying banjo, when we got back. He has just gone away, saying he'd have to "graft on a new finger for that last chord"!
