Mary came up right
after supper to see if I'd go down to Edith's - which I did - (to meet her later) & she
didn't get there till after nine because of cars being blocked by the
procession in honor of the opening of Lyell Avenue
pavement, After Mary came - & Elsie
- we played pedro till nearly eleven. Met Freddie & invited her to lunch tomorrow.
Oct. 23. Sat.Frederica's and Bert Crump's 26th birthday. Took Freddie a pretty little cast today & she was evidently
delighted with it. Then we went to lunch at Sibley's and really had a very nice time indeed.
Lura met me to tell me of the
arrival of a daughter to Bert
& Hattie
Brower, in Buffalo. Mrs.
Bangs (whom I'd never met before) was waiting in Claude's office with tickets to the matinee -
"She Stoops to Conquer", and I easily cajoled Gilmore into letting me go. I was glad to
see the play. It was beautifully put on - but I didn't like
Mrs. Robson as "Kate" at all, at all! I like
Mrs. Bangs first rate. She's an awfully smart
woman & writes plays herself. She's writing a farce, now with
Harvey Ellis's help. I was
riding my wheel home when I met Mary & Helen D.
on
1897.
pretty soon Mr. Greerson came & I went down in
"the old bookstore"
afterward and it was all quite a success. Made
the acquaintance of the vagabond cat "Sarah
Bernhart". Staid home this evening.
Oct. 22. Friday
