- he told me such good stories of hunting and fishing and
roaming and mooning and of pioneer - life and the
Rockies and Portland
and "Nell" & "Jen" and "Walter
Leurion
" &c. Some people snapped a Kodak on us and coming down we stopped for daisies and
pink clovers and Con said I was a
"good fellow" & some more nice things & he couldn't imagine two
girls having a better time going to Europe together than Ned & I and he said he liked it because
I didn't talk to him about "4 story bonnets" & things! We
drifted back by half past eight and it was very cold then - my fingers
were like icicles - and we were so
hungry - hungry enough to eat "cold roast missionary", Con said. Found
Papa & Mama in the dark beside the kitchen fire & it didn't
take long to load up to the table & make toast & tea &
hull strawberries and fix cucumbers & onions & everything else we
could think of. Then our nice Sunday night talk &
Con went home at 10:30 and Claude
came & told how he'd progressed on his competition (he works
every minute) & now to bed!
a pretty river and such good company. Dear boy
