July 27. Tuesday. This is the day for our Chemong excourson. I laid awake half the night listening to the wind & rain & when Irving called us at 5:30 Everything was so wet & the rain so bad there was no tho't of going. We had a late breakfast and then all gathered around the wood fire & spent the morning - reading & talking & loafing. Dr. Lindsay read nearly half of the "Pursuit of the House Boat" aloud and Hilda wrote out "N.for Nannie & B for Ben" for me, from Mr. Dymond's

dictation and another. Bob was very loving & hugged & kissed & fondled me every chance he got. Mr D.
said they "sympathized with him!" I wrote a note to Mama &c. The rain showed no sign of stopping. After dinner I took a nap of an hour, upstairs, and then played pedro with some of the girls. Ned got a note from Mrs. Buell inviting her & me & "our friend" to luncheon Thursday and we declined it. Mr. Dymond
expected a letter from his wife & rowed over for the mail I sat on the piazza, watching him come back (it drifted awfully - the boat - the wind blew a gale) when Maude came out and made a declaration of love to me! A very sincere one, it was too - and as complimentary & expression as a man could have made it! She said "Don't think you haven't had a love affair this summer" - I have a thrilling one!
