shown into a room to wash up - which was most refreshing. About 2 or
a little before we were ushered into the large dining room (end center
table, next window looking on river.) We had a very elab- orate and
a very nice dinner & the conversation was very amusing (both to us
& the waiter) Will & Con
fairly sparkled and we all were much rested & refreshed (tho'
not over tired before) About quarter after three we strolled out on the
back piazza & Will began his
smoke, then Mary & Warren
appeared - having found our wheels & our name on the register -
They reported delays & punctures & misplaced hopes &c. but had
had dinner & had
Harry Severance & a Mr.
Howe (?) with them & were ready for anything - so away
we went across the Suspension Bridge & flying up the Canadian
shore on a broad - flower - bordered path - Then a duck thro' the spray -
a board-walk & a nice cinder path for a mile or two or more. At
a pretty little summer house beside the Rapids Mary's wheel had to be blown up & fixed
with "Baloon juice" &c again; and the party halted &
reclined on the grass - Then on again - more wooden bridges. More spooney
summer- houses & finally a most thrilling ride on a narrow board
"Lover's walk" that turned at right angles and wound
around and about a lovely isle - Dufferin Island -
and finally Across a funny little Suspension Bridge
