Mch 5. Friday A disagreeable March Day - I had a horrid headache tonight- but went to Ned's - of course - camera & tripod and all. She had the prettiest score cards. The "pin" painted on each, with a pedro hand inside it & a letter beneath - and a verse - mine was. "M. is for May, so bright & so gay. Always the same from day to day. She can play ball to beat the band. Say, She's good t'ing to have on hand. I am sure I love her very much. And hope she loves her poor old Dutch". Charlotte was sick with grip & couldn't come & we had a dummy. Emma supplied for Matie, who's in NY. We played 5 games & Ned got the prize. Then she disappeared & soon we were ushered thro' attic regions up into the cupala which had been transformed into the cutest lunch room! - Posters & brass candelabra on the walls - & signs, "cafe" "glace" "Sandwich de Laituce" &c.&c. and a "lunch counter" around two sides - with bottles of birch beer-steins - ginger jars a glass dish of salad - rolled bread & butter & a "bouquet" of oranges & tulips. High stools to sit on & pound on the counter for more. Mabel, Nellie & I were over in the corner by Geo Humphrey's poster
