girls and (Hilda
Gregory and Maud Weir)
and pretty soon the Roses came & Mrs.
Graham packed up lunch and off we went. In the canoe
were Flavie"Aunt Almira" Rose & Helen True.
In our boat Ned, Edith, Mr. Gray &
Ralph
and in Rose's - Mrs.
Rose, Ruth True,
Prof. & I (rowing) It was four or five miles up
to Eel creek - wind dead against us - but I didn't mind.
Got up there about - well before noon - to the first Rapids.
Ned caught a bass and
Mr. Page & I snapped Kodaks and we
loitered there awhile and then went on up the river - walking thro'
the woods - "portaging" boats - strolling up rocks. Killing snakes (
Ralph) gathering wild garlic
(Aunt Almira) & wild pears (Mrs. Rose) and fishing now & then
(Ned & Edith) &c. We passed 4 Rapids & then rowed a mile
or so (I trolled) & came to some wild-ish falls and got out on a
big rock on a breezy hilltop to a picnic dinner - sandwiches &
cold tea - lemonade - cake - blueberry pie &c. (more pictures.)
Then a scrambly stroll over rocks &c. for the fun of watching
Edith draw in lovely little
bass & throw them back
