July 16 Friday A beautiful morning but I feel quite "done up". Went to the office & J.G. offered to let me come right home - but I didn't till the noon mail - Gilmore bade me farewell & JG. & JW & "Mart" & the boys. I met Ned, Edith, & Chat. We bought our tickets & things & I came home to pack. I packed & got ready things all the p.m. and my trunk went at 7:30. Con came up after supper and brought a big box of candy and then we rode out to the park together before he went back to the office to work. Mrs. Behn sent me ice cream & we had phosphate &c. and Mrs. Weaver came & later the Behn girls & boys to bid me goodbye July 17 Sat. Lovely day. I weigh 131 - Edith 101. I felt much better & got up before six & got off to the station in good shape with Mama. Con came to see me off, and after we were on the train, Mary too. And we had quite an affecting farewell in the cars - no one went to Charlotte with us. The trip across was perfectly delightful cool & a nice breeze on the hurricane deck and a smooth water & clouds enough to take off the glare. I read "Father Stafford" and we ate lettuce sandwiches &c. & enjoyed it. We killed time in Port Hope by eating a very bad dinner at the "Queen's" & going shopping for postage stamps tooth powder & hammocks &c. and we rode over in a "hack" from the station & took
