and had my swell course dinner & mint julep (?) in Rhine wine

at the Cottage - to music. There were numerous funny things occured & we drank M "the future "Misses" Orchard's" health. Then strolled at the Esplanade and saw the cinematograph at the Pavilion also Walter Smith, Mr. & Mrs. J.W. &c. &c. We crossed the ferry by moonlight and came up on the Eastside. Ed Burroughs came sat opposite me (I sat with Mary coming back & Helen going down) And we had a very nice visit - He invited me to bring the "Twelve Perfects" down for a sail and discussed sailing & yachting &c. &c. I like him - because he has those laughing sailor-eyes. July 9. Sat. Still hotter! It must be the limit I think - worked hard all morning and went to the dressmakers & shopped afterwards. Then had a chat with Frank Davis - when home for bread & milk - cash acct - a bath & dressed in my light ginghamn & went over to Davis's to call on Miss Perry & Charlotte & her mother returned. Found Mary there. We sat on the back piazza in the shade till early supper & then the girls all went to the lake I wasn't going - but Chat said she wouldn't if I didn't &seemed to want me to
