rode our wheels down to the ball game - reach- ing there in time to
see most of a foot ball game (International rules) which came first &
was pretty - and a fat man who walked it was very funny -
Rochester won & they carried some of the victors from
the field. I enjoyed watching the play. We or rather Con - saw Harvey
Ellis and Geo.
Humphrey - in another stand - but not
Will, Helen
&
Mary - tho' they were there.
The ball game was fine - I never saw such good playing - & the way
they "guyed" the men - "Ten Dollars" - & "Now Don" -
&c.&c. was rich. They played 10 innings - score 4 to 4 - we came
away after the first half of the 9th & rode up
State St. I felt pretty tired, & lay down for a
rest. They had a flag raising at Behn's.
Orphans sang - Papa read a poem
&c.&c. I didn't go over till afterward - then we chatted -
looked at photographs - ate - drank - danced &c. All our family were
there - and Con - and many others.
Came home after eleven, I think - Claude is work- ing day & night this week on a
Competition, for the Pennsylvania State House,
Harrisburg.
June 1. Tues.
Staid down to lunch, met Miss Holmes. Cad Chapin was up on her new wheel
tonight & gushed over my room &c. Then I went down to Mary's & visited with 4 sisters.
