many times (about 7 by Mrs. Backus!) and once each by several people I merely met) once by Mr. DeGraff (who "sat it out" with me) once or twice by Clifford Shaw. While Fisk, King & Crosby put out several feelers - "why wouldn't I?", &c. in that direction. I enjoyed it thoroughly - Held Mary's program & advised her every minute - In fact I fell in love with her all over again. Her program had "M.J.F." about every third one and such eagerness! (I didn't blame him!) Although there were no real programs, she had 12 dances down on a visiting card by the time the first was done! Helen danced a waltz with Murray - How she does love that un- worthy youth! I "promenaded" with Frank & sat out dances with him - except when he was two-stepping with Helen. His uniform is very becoming. Finally I agreed to dance the last lancers with him - Thereby hurting Mr. Backus's feelings! We got the quarter of 12 car home, Mr. B. with us - I staid with Helen - We talked "Murray" a little and Mary & Helen told me the most bewildering thing - that Mary said (and before her!) that she thought M. B. was the "nicest girl without exception she knew or ever had known" - or words to that effect and Ned added - next day - that she said she "didn't see anything anyone could dislike about her!" Of course Mary is a very one-sided girl - but she gave me sweet dreams.
