the Kitchen & stories to tell and chatting to do - also out in the moonlight by the side door Con sat on his wheel (always bareheaded) & Mama & I on the step & talked & talked. Then he went to write letters - & I to write this & now - very sleepily - to bed. May 10. Monday Felt bad today - but went to the office. Ned found out she tore a tendon in her foot and is laid up in bed today. I stopped there twice - once with Mary, and tonight I read up by my window a little while and went to bed at 8:10! May 11. Tuesday. Francis Chapin is 16 today. It was a simply perfect spring night. Con went to the Bay with Mr. Rich I sat up in my window and read and watched the people going over to the Orphan Asylum to an entertainment. Went to bed quite early. May 12. Wednesday Circus day - and it poured, of course. Poor Con got thrown last night, going to the Bay, and ripped up the palm of his right hand - He got fixed some way at a roadhouse - and went on! to spend the evening canoeing &c. and ride back with one hand in air at 12:30! - is all done up today though. I saw an elephant or so, but there wasn't much of a parade because the circus got in a railroad smashup at Brown Street last night. Con asked me to go with him at night - and I felt restless (after two evenings in the house) and did. We started early (with a box of candy)
