Nine years ago today. I began work at Mr.
Cutler's offices. Last week, I shopped a little -
& this week too. I have a new dress and am having my striped silk
waist made

over into a shirt waist. A week ago tonight I went down with
Edith to supper and we went up
to see Mae and John in their lovely new house Claude designed for them - & it is a
beauty & very tastily furnished - The Library is a "dream" in
greens and brass &c. We had ale!

Sunday it was showery. I sat on the divan by the front window and
read all the morning. Con stopped in
for dinner, (we had ice cream & chicken) and later he & I
started for the lake
but decided it was too far & too late to go. I went up to
Davis's for a short call.

Monday night I went to a Cake walk in Fitzhugh Hall,
with Con. It was great fun - He sat
next to Charlie Demarest &
Mr. Lacey, both of Matthews & Boucher's
The Coons were very funny - & the Cake & the costumes -
& the contest for the $50.00 between "Mistah Gilmo', and lady,
de champion cullud walkah of Rochestah" and "Mr Fred Lee and lady de
champion white walkah of Rochestah" was rich - It was a
