Jan. 4 Tues. Tonight Mary, Nellie & Edith came up to play pedro and first I told Mary's fortune. We had a very jolly evening - but Mary & Edith beat the "rubber". We played with my stage cards - & had vanilla wafers to eat. It was snowing when the girls left. Jan. 5 Wed. Very busy still - spent the evening reading the magazines - especially "Rupert of Hentzan". Jan. 6. Thurs. Tonight we went to the theatre - Mary, Nellie, Emma & I. It was full - every seat I think. Mary Hampton (It was "Under the Red Robe) was Renee - as pretty - but much fatter than before. Morris was by no means an ideal "de Berault" in looks - tho' he acted well. The play is full of incident, romantic & enjoyable, I think - I must read the book. It rained & was disagreeable today but we walked home under a pleasant sky. Jan. 7. Fri Papa & Mama went to Dr. Webster's tonight & Claude worked - so I read "Sign of the Cross" through and tonight (Sat.) I read "A Man of Mark" thro' - Con's book. I lunched with the Vagabonds on Friday & on Saturday with at Lura's - She was sick abed & I went up to see her & lunched with Murray Crosby, who takes his meals there. Walked up with
