with the "sure enough" Vagabonds -
Claude, George,
Con & Harvey - & Geo. the waiter was very
attentive & we had a good time. Staid till 6:15 tonight -
writing to Green & Wicks. Did up Xmas
presents after supper - and read "Quo Vadis".
Dec. 23. Thurs.
Nice snowy weather - busy with Xmas anticipation.
Con announced that he was "another uncle" -
as his sister Nellie
has a new daughter & I got
Nicholson's picture - Almanac - with
Kipling
poems. The October (?) one being, let's see "A pious horse to church
may trot A maid may work man's reformation But horses four and girl
are not A ? ? combination I'm going to give it to Ned. Tonight I did up more & wrote &
read & "talked to the family".
Dec 24 Fri.
The day before Christmas rush. J.G. gave me Gibson's "London" -
which delighted me - and let me go after the noon mail - I went to
Salter's to send some flowers to Mrs. Baker and there saw Ned & Will & had a nice little chat with them while they
sent a "Jersusalem Cherry" to Charlotte- then I went down to Edith's & Fredericka's with gifts, stopping at the Postal
Telegraph to send a pretty green & white waste basket
to Mae Stull. Met Frank
Decker, just sending me my annual box of candy - so I
took it. He looked pale, poor boy
1897.
