Nov 23. Tuesday Today was spent in more or less agitation. because Mary thought she mustn't go! after all Shall I ever depend on her again! I tried to say very little - but the right thing and evidently did - for she suddenly decided to go. Bed early tonight. Nov. 24th to Nov. 28th Wednesday (24th) The day we start for Brantford. Busy this nice frosty morning - and at 2:25 Helen Davis, Miss Rathjen, Mama & Con saw us off Con came early with a box of Lovejoy's chocolates. Helen brought white crysanthimums and Mr. Gilmore & "Mart" send a huge lavender one - which Con thought ought to have mayonaisse with it. He was very nice - carried out our luggage etc. & Mama & Helen got out into the station, too and saw us off a jolly party. Mary, Edith & I. We talked & ate chocolates and it seemed nothing at all till we reached Buffalo & Helen & Will - the latter with a pointed beard! (Which he had shaved off by Saturday) Ned looked well & happy but said she didn't like the falls and was lonesome. By winding ways we reached the Grand Trunk Station & when the soft voiced man said "The trains were made up" - We got on & left Edith with Helen & Will & were off to Brantford at 5 p.m. It is surprising how absolutely different everything Canadian is - & we felt it immediately - train - conductor - passenger & atmosphere. Near "Bertie" or Port Colborne we ate a nice chicken lunch Mama had prepared (one of our 5 meals today!) and
