Big Tree Farm and rode across the turf into the shade of some big oaks, where we tethered our steeds with some "hunters" and went over to the brilliant line of drags and four-in-hand, and footmen & gorgeous women in furs-chappies passing "Polly" (appolinaris) and beer and coffee - girls eating cold chicken between raptures at "his hunter's" performances proud small boys leading or riding velvet satin coated beauties up and down. The sun had come out and the air was clear and brilliant - color everywhere - bright yellow, red & blue coaches and rainbow dressed women and men in red and yellow and white vests and small clothes pink ties and hunting boots. Everyone feeling fine and gay and inside the ropes the hunters showing their paces. The "gentlemen riders" urging them over hurdles and hedges and fences. The grooms leading them off and bringing them on - and each one more beautiful or more glossy or pluckier or more graceful than the last. It was pretty to see them sorted out for the steeplechase - by weight - some ridden by their owners, who had 3 or 4 horses "entered" - some by proper grooms and some by ragged farmer's boys in the
