when I went up to see Mae & John, just returned from Stony Lake. I staid till 8 o'clock & we had such a nice time - Mae told me Mrs. Graham's occasion for her remark in my letter about the Lindsays - which is deplorable! We re-lamented Ned's wedding and oh! nobody knows how much it means to me. It has gotten now so she confides in me no more and of course it is impossible - & will be forever if she is his wife. And to think if she is unhappy I must be almost the last person to know it! - except by intuition & instinct & if she were here & I could see her I could tell instantly. But I hope against hope. She is through with Mae & John - because they said things of Will less severe than she herself has said. Jno doesn't care much I think but Mae doesn't like it - Such is life. On the way home I stopped at Mary's & saw all the girls. They had been to Batavia all day. Last night Con was up to get me to make my party call at Charella's with him but of course I didn't go again. He is being very devoted to Martha Rathjen
