intermission for supper - which we enjoyed and a couple of snap
shots. The pilot talked to us and the first mate hung over the open
window & "jollied" us & a sailor insisted on cleaning all the
beams about us and half the crew came past for a look in. We didn't
leave till after we rounded Charlotte pier.
Then we rushed down in time to catch a
glimpse of Emma &
Nellie Mac, Mama
& "Connie" on
the pier dock. Con
got past the man some way and swarmed in to help with trunk, traps
& custom house men - and at last we were "off." Had raisins,
almonds & gum coming home. Claude
was in the station & he & Con
had lots of fun "rounding up" their "opera company". We had
possession of a Clinton St. car, and at last had to
part, one by one. Con staid half an
hour so. My trunk was rather late coming.
Aug 3. Tuesday
And then a bath & bed and a rather late waking. A blow the
first thing, finding my films - 4 rolls - had not been received by
Hovey - and I wrote 5 letters
to postmaster about it.
Gilmore had a haircut, a clean shave and a
new necktie in honor of my arrival
Martha greeted me most hilariously.
