goat island and drifted listening to the singing at the camp fire
meeting and watching the setting sun light and the camp fire light on the
canoes and skiffs and the trees and water. We almost drifted home -
singing and talking under a galaxy of stars and Mr. Dymond
pulled us in and the girls went off to bed, but I staid on the
piazza talking to Dr. Lindsay & Miss
D. while Mr. D.
developed
some pictures he took today. Then he invited me to go down to the dock and
help wash them and down there he told me what he thought of
"Billie" from his picture, which he examined very
carefully before "tea". He got him down fine - wanted me not to tell
Ned what he said except that he
saw "a handsome picture of a handsome man". We all parted reluctantly
to go off to bed. I putting some last things in satchel &c.
Aug. 2 Sat.
"Jimmie" was in his element this morning waking
up the family - all - but the children - and
three of them got up! (not Bob &
Griffith.) I rushed down to the wharf to put my
"nightie" in my trunk, and found it very foggy. We had rather a
jolly breakfast - for such an early one - together - and finally got
trunks & people on board & goodbye's said etc.etc. and started off
about six o'clock. Dr. Lindsay sat beside me and
was very entertaining & nice. He said nice things to me, too,
and I like him. Mr. D.
