Edith & I played with the old gentleman and the Canon for partners (I had the Bishop) it was a funny experience. This old duffer of a man roaring, singing & pounding the table. The quiet little Canon criticising the plays & Edith & I laughing aloud & to ourselves about things. Mary looking over my hand, Ned at the "15 Puzzle", Mr. Dymond

reciting poetry or sometimes joining a chorus with Taylor - whom Mary tried to make "talk shop" again and Mr. Tate hovering around Miss D. "Chaperoning" hard, in a corner! We played our two games & a rubber (they just beat us) and then were going home but were led thro' more passages from this manny sitting room to a much more man-ny dining room, where we had bananas, cake & hot lemonade in tall glasses. We were paired so - Mary & the Canon, Ned & Tate, Mr. Dymond
& Edith, Miss Dymond & the Bishop and Taylor & I. We had a very charming visit, now & then indulging in general conversation, which I noticed was somewhat spasmodic. The ending was a song standing & clasping hands roaring from the Bishop - enthusiasm from Taylor & a wicked smile in Mr. Dymond's
eye.
